It is fortunate that I have never been satisfied with mainstream medicine and its approaches. Throughout my life, I have maintained a keen interest in alternative and holistic therapies. Through the years, I have tried many of them, and I will continue to do so in the hopes of improving and strengthening my mind, body, and spirit. That is precisely what they have done. However, I am aware that what may work for me may not work for someone else. It’s important to continue trying until you find something that will work for you. Exactly what does everything mean? The truth is that they can count on one hand the techniques or methods they have “tried”. I recommend you continue searching, the journey toward healing is never complete, there is always room to grow and improve. You may find that your world expands in a most extraordinary way by making new friends (as I have) and learning useful skills for your self-healing toolkit. How should I proceed when I reach a crossroads in life and need some direction or healing? The following are 5 basic points that have assisted me in lifting my spirits and with practice, you will also find them helpful:
1- Meditation! Meditation is one of the greatest self-healing tools available and costs nothing but a few minutes of your time. Choose one of the many meditation techniques available and begin. Spending time in quiet contemplation with music playing can soothe your soul and reconnect you to your higher self.
2- Aromatherapy and Essential Oils. By blending a variety of essential oils together in an aromatherapy oil burner, you can rebalance and rejuvenate your spirit. The following blend is extremely effective when a person needs nurturing, support, and healing. Place a few drops in an aromatherapy oil burner with water approximately an hour before going to sleep. (For safety purposes, extinguish the flame before you turn off the lights.): You could also use a diffuser with a timer, whichever you may have accessible to you.
4 drops of Jasmine
4 drops of Rose
4 drops of Neroli
3 drops Lavender
3 drops Bergamot
The aroma is divine! I use this one occasionally and not only do I sleep like a baby, but anxiety and stress also disappear and it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders the next morning! If your bedroom is small, you may want to reduce the number of drops by half.
3- Breathe! Stand with your feet shoulder-length apart. Using the diaphragm muscles, take three slow and deep breaths. Inhale through the nose and exhale through slightly parted lips. During these exercises, imagine you are taking in your own personal power, filling every cell in your body, from your diaphragm to the top of your head. Be your own personal power and see how your body becomes taller, straighter, and stronger. If needed, repeat the steps above.
4- Be in the Present Moment. Breathe deeply and give your full attention to this moment, right now. Whether you are reading a book or magazine, or even this post, focus entirely on the words and their meaning. There is only you and this post now in the present moment. Ensure your full focus is on the task at hand and only this task, as well as what must be done to complete it. Nothing else matters except you being in this moment.
5- Set an intention. Whenever I am looking for something relevant and useful for me, I set an intention for what I am seeking. For example, I may wish to find a book that will provide me with answers regarding the most effective healing modality or skill to use. Then, I meditate on this intention, give it a time frame, and open my heart to it. It won’t be long before I have my hands on a book. When I go shopping, I also use the intention to locate a parking space. It is rare for me to become ill nowadays, and if I do, my doctor informs me that I am in good health and that whatever bug I have caught will pass quickly. Even though I still experience sadness and unhappiness (I am still human after all), neither of these emotions last very long, unlike in the past when they’d last several days and sometimes weeks at a time. The 5 points above can help me to lift my spirits and experience life once again in a more peaceful and joyful manner.
